Notes from the Archives are shared with us by Blithewold’s curator, Margaret Whitehead. Margaret has spent the better part of the last twenty years meticulously preserving and interpreting the vast collection of letters, diaries, memoirs, and photographs that, taken together, document the lives of an exceptional American Family. Look out for the publication of Margaret’s book BLITHEWOLD: Legacy of an American Family, due out this fall.

Marjorie’s journals made for fascinating reading. I worked and lived in various parts of Europe from 1962 until 2003. Seeing places I loved from Marjorie’s viewpoint and time was wonderful. Made me want to time travel. Also Italian scenes she described seemed to intertwine with my very fond memories especially the churches at Easter. Were there additional comments about Girgenti now known as Agrigento in Sicily?
Plan to visit Blithewold in September and will look for Margaret’s book.

Carol, I am so glad you are enjoying reading about Marjorie’s year in Europe. I don’t think there were comments on Girgenti, but I will look it up. Let me know when you are coming to Blithewold and I would be happy to meet with you if I am here…..
